Clubs
| Concert Band | Concert band is offered to students in Grades 4- 7. We offer a variety of different instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. There are three levels of band: • Beginning Band is for all new students to the band program and they practice on Mondays at 7:30am and Wednesday at 3:10pm. • Junior Band is for second year students and they practice on Mondays at 3:10pm and Thursdays at 7:30am. • Senior Band are for third and fourth year students returning to band and they practice on Mondays at 3:10pm and Fridays at 7:30am. On weeks when there is mass, both Junior and Senior Bands will practice on the opposite morning - if mass is on Thursday, both bands will practice Friday morning; if mass is on Friday, both bands will practice on Thursday. |

| Faith Club | Faith club is open to all students Grades 5 - 7. The club meets twice a month from November to May. Focusing on our school theme each year, our meetings take on many different forms such as discussions, reflections, arts and crafts, and short prayer services to help spread the message of the gospel to our young people. This club endeavors to help each member deepen their relationship with Jesus through Scripture as well as promote their faith in action. |
| Leadership Team | The Leadership Team is an interest-based activity, where interested students make a commitment to coming together regularly to build teamwork skills and organize service projects for the school community. Past activities have included a role in Pink Shirt Day, leading fundraisers such as BC Children's Hospital Jeans Day, Silence for Life to value all human life, and fundraiser sales for people in need around the world. We have also been able to attend two of the CISVA Elementary Schools Student Council Conferences. |
| Learning Resource Department | Our Lady of Fatima has a Learning Resource Department that is comprised of an English and French speaking Resource Teacher and a team of Special Education Assistants. The goal of the Resource Department is to provide Special Education Services to students who have been identified according to the Ministry of Education’s criteria. In addition, the Resource Department provides services to students who require additional learning support in the form of adaptations or modifications within the natural setting of the classroom or intervention support services within the Learning Resource Classroom. |
| Morning Announcement Team | Each year 10 students from Grades 6E and 6F are chosen as part of the Morning Announcement Team. These students lead the school each morning in prayer as well read and share important announcements each day throughout the school year. |
| Multicultural Club | Students who join our club will be exposed to different facets of various cultures around the world; for example, food, music, and language. There is always a food demonstration where the adult shares his/her culture and the students get the pleasure of eating the delicious food. Our club is open to the Intermediate students in Grades 4 – 7 only due to the high level of interest. The club will meet usually on four Mondays of a chosen month from 3:15 – 4:30 p.m. in the church basement |
| Philosophy/debate Club | In this club, students will learn about new ideas, and discuss how these are relevant to their lives. They will watch videos, read texts, and discuss topics which go deeper than what is normally discussed in class. They will be encouraged to argue their point of view, and by doing so clarify what they believe. Topics will also be given for the students to debate, formally and informally. |
| Peer Mediator Program | The Peer Mediator Program is an important part of Project Respect at Our Lady of Fatima School. It is composed of grade 6 and 7 students who demonstrate leadership skills. Our peer mediators take on many roles at school that include helping students uncover and solve problems, assist younger students in engaging in appropriate play, and acting as visible and empathetic role models for our entire school community. Peer mediation is a both a program and a process where students facilitate resolving disputes between two people or small groups. The peer mediators are trained to use the 5 Step Problem Solving Model (see attached sheet) as well as in minor first aid. |
| Readers are Leaders | Readers are Leaders is a fun, competitive reading trivia program open to Grade 5, 6 and 7 students in CISVA schools. Groups of students are responsible for reading six novels chosen by Librarians in the CISVA. The six books are selected from the 12 fiction finalists for the Canadian Red Cedar Award. Students begin reading the books in December and make notes and create questions related to the novels. From January to March students meet once a week to discuss the novels they have read, exchange study questions and have practice competitions based on the questions they created. An in-school competition will be held in mid-March to determine which students will advance to the Regional competition. Regional competitions for the winning team from each school will be held in early April. The final competition will be held in late April. |
| Verbathon | Verbathon is a French verb conjugating game. It supports the learning of French verbs and grammar in the classroom, however it also becomes a competition. In the spring teams of 6 students are picked from each French Immersion class from Grade 2 through 6. These students then perfect the art of conjugating French verbs on a chart, against the clock. After much practice, in the spring, the teams participate in a regional Tri-City event with several other French Immersion schools. Our Lady of Fatima has always had tremendous success with our enthusiastic students who always bring home first and second place medals and trophies. On Y Va Fatima! |
